Cheryl Slottke Obituary
Cheryl Adair Slottke, 61, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Friday morning, June 12, 2009 at home in the arms of her husband.
Cheryl was born on July 25, 1947 in Covina, CA. She was the only child born to Maurell and Elizabeth (Adair) Newbill. She was raised and received her education in Covina, CA, graduating with the Class of 1965. She later attended San Jose State College.
She was united in marriage to William Slottke on June 30, 1968 in Covina, CA. Following their marriage they made their home in Covina until 1973 when they relocated to Burlington, IA. In 1980 their final move was made to Forest Grove, OR.
Cheryl was first and foremost a loving mother to her three children and a devoted wife to her husband. She was a homemaker who volunteered through the years at all of her children's schools and events. Cheryl "collected people" and their stories. Owing to her gentle nature, wit, and kindness, she would have someone's life's story in under an hour, meanwhile making them feel as if their story was epic and worthy of the telling. She was a person who was well read, a believer in obtaining knowledge for knowledge's sake, and a servant of Truth and Beauty. She was especially attracted to poetry and European history. Cheryl also enjoyed shopping (Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale being her favorite) and was passionate about travel, evident in the 6 tours of Europe she enjoyed with her husband, the 7th being canceled due to illness.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 41 years William "Kaiser Bill" Slottke; son Kurt Slottke of Forest Grove, OR; son and daughter-in-law Derek and Tiffany (Mateski) Slottke of Portland, OR; daughter and son-in-law Rachel and Chris (Rodgers) Slottke of Portland, OR; a sister of the heart Kathy Sahnow of Forest Grove, OR; and grandson Tavish Rex (T-Rex) Slottke of Portland, OR.
The family suggests donations in Cheryl's name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation
