David Richardson, MD Obituary
David Crommelin Richardson, beloved husband, father and friend, died unexpectedly of natural causes May 5, 2019. His sudden death brought shock and deep loss to his family and friends.
David was born to William and Conradina Richardson in Orange, N.J., on June 10, 1949. He grew up in Maplewood, N.J. and attended Columbia High School. His father left the house every morning to catch the train to NYC wearing his fedora and carrying the NY Times. David's love of hats and reading the daily paper was born in this suburban town. He also loved his transistor radio. Music became a place of solace and a great love he carried with him all the days of his life. Sailing camp on Cape Cod during the summers took him to the water where he always found peace.
David followed his father and older brother Bill to Princeton University where he graduated with an A.B. Degree, Cum Laude in Chemistry. After graduation David moved to Houston to study at Baylor College of Medicine. "It knocked my socks off the first time I witnessed a birth," David retorted and knew his future was as on OB/GYN. After completing his residency, David practiced in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a staunch supporter of women and reproductive rights. A lifetime member of the AMA, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he also was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Medical College. He also served on the Board of Directors of Hillcrest Medical Center. David left Tulsa to become the OB/GYN Residency Program Director for the Medical College of Georgia at Atlanta Medical Center where he served three years. While teaching was a passion, he was a clinician at heart. With a calling to the Pacific Northwest, David moved to Oregon and practiced for a short time before retiring.
David loved traveling and live music of all genres. His naturally curious mind kept him busy learning about all the things he never had time for while in practice. He was a friend of Bill W for 32 years.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Pamela, son Jonathan (Nikki), mother-in-law Edwina Zang, Miriam Mills, Tulsa, mother to Bryan (Kathleen and grandson Cooper), Seattle, and Patrick (Alisa), Philadelphia, his sister Kay (JS) of Weston, Mass., nieces and nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 10, 2019.
