John Madsen Obituary
John Stevens Madsen, known as Steve to his family and friends, was born in Detroit, Michigan the eldest son of Oswald and Mary Louise Stevens Madsen. Steve’s younger brothers, Dick Madsen of Seattle, WA and Kenny Madsen of Phoenix, AZ, predeceased him..
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Judy Madsen, his six children: Jeffrey Madsen of Columbia, MO, Tracey Madsen of Beaverton, OR, Amy Dati (husband Ed) of Columbia, MO, James Madsen (wife Maylen) of Tualatin, OR, Jennifer Madsen of Portland, OR, and Scott Madsen (wife Adrienne) of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Nicole, Eric, Zachery, Emily, Andrew, Timothy, Tyler, Travis and Trent, and great grandsons Thorin and Flynn. The family moved to Oregon from the Midwest in 1990.
Steve enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family. After moving to Oregon, he loved learning to ski on Mt. Hood, hiking the Pacific Northwest and exploring Oregon beaches. Family hikes and adventures were always top of the list for him. One of his greatest adventures was when he climbed Mt. Hood in his 60’s. Steve played tennis in college and enjoyed picking up his racket again, sometimes playing every day once he retired.
Steve loved combining two of his favorite things, the outdoors and photography. Hikes included many stops while he worked on taking the perfect picture. He enjoyed developing, printing and framing his own photos. He entered local photography shows, winning blue ribbons for his talent. He was also an accomplished woodworker, making beautiful cabinets and furniture for family.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Robison Jewish Health Center for the excellent care he received there in his final years. He made many goods friends there, of both staff and residents, he will be missed.
