Patsy Johnson Obituary
Patsy Loree Johnson
July 16, 1942 - June 29, 2017
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as he is, so are we in the world.
I John 4:16-17.
Pat loved Pastor Joseph Prince and listened religiously to his sermons and was so delighted when her grandson, Amadi, showed her how to listen to Prince on her phone. But she still had her CD collections and had no problem sharing them with others in bulk! Did I mention she also took meticulous notes when she listened to the sermons; she did not want to miss a thing. She loved learning about her God. She loved to share Him, too!
Pat adored & loved her grandkids and gave them so much play time. Aisha remembers once they were playing with her polly pocket dolls and Aisha had a little smelly event of sorts and grandma just kept playing with her doll and saying that her dolly must have had an accident because it smelled soooo bad!
She also had a love of food so deciding where to eat was of course a special occasion. Unfortunately, choosing from the menu was even more challenging.... Dad told us once it took her one hour to decide what to order and we just laughed until we cried. Dad didn't think we believed him, but we were laughing because we knew this time, he really wasn't exaggerating!!
Pat loved Christmas. No matter what the economic situation, she always warned there would not be much gift sharing that year. But each year she managed to gather up multiple items to wrap for each grandchild, carefully counting to make sure it was even. She did the same with her own mother, Alice (they loved this ritual). Regardless of how big or small, the grandkids were always anxious to see what crazy gifts grandma found this time. She made each gift a treasure as she wrapped them up with her love (and way too much tape!).
Regardless of Pat's health limitations, she could outlast the fittest athlete in her quest for a new treasure at a garage sale, Salvation Army, or Goodwill. Actually, she really found some good deals. Unfortunately, Dad is still trying to find space for them in the house!
Pat's heart was also pulled to the water. Whether on the dock, Dad's boat, or the shore line, Pat could out-fish the best of them. She placed in many perch tournaments, along with her husband, Darrell, and her mom, Alice. They could all tell a good fish story.
Pat also had a soft heart for those in need. She worked 13 years caring for the elderly in need in Washington and Multnomah County. She saw the need and filled it. Ranging from personal hygiene assistance, grocery shopping, to simply being a friendly face that cared, Pat touched lives that were often neglected and reminded them of their value and that they were loved.
Pat lived life large. She did not hold back. What she decided, she decided and proceeded forth. How can we possibly capture it all..... a jitter bug junky, Elvis Presley fan, happy helper homemaker, Hawaiian hulalula queen, creative cooker with no known fatalities, card shark, football/softball/track team screamer, hardcore camper/fisherwoman, Silcoos Perch Champ, Joseph Prince diehard, a very unique daughter, an unpredictable sister, a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and a lover of God. We all cherish memories and we mostly cherish her. We love you!
Husband, Darrell G. Johnson. Children, Ronald E. Johnson (deceased), Phyllis Featherstone, Gary D. Johnson (deceased). Grandchildren, Amadi Amaitsa and Aisha Amaitsa. Siblings, Robert Peyton, Rita Davis, Mary Clark and Beth Smithson
