Richard Whitten Obituary
Richard D. Whitten
January 31, 1953 - December 20, 2017
Richard D. Whitten passed away unexpectedly surrounded by family on December 20, 2017 at the age of 64 from complications related to glioblastoma.
He was born in Meriden, CT and lived on the East Coast for about 40 years until he moved to Oregon in the 1990's.
He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Central Connecticut State and went on to get his Master's in Business Administration from University
of New Haven. He had a successful career as a software engineer until
his retirement in 2013.
Richard was a very adventurous individual. Over the years he climbed many mountains, scuba dived and took cross country and international motorcycle rides throughout the US and Canada. In addition, Richard enjoyed regular activities of mountain biking, spending time with his beloved wife and cats, reading, golfing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and, of course, the finer things of wine tasting and cooking.
Richard is survived by his wife Leslie, four step-children; Jessica,
Spouse Scott; Jennifer, Spouse Sean; Jaclyn, Samuel and three step-grandchildren; Avery, River and Corilynn.
At the request of Richard, there will be no service.

My condolences on the death of Richard. I am wondering if he was a graduate of the class of 1971 at Francis T. Maloney HS in Meriden. We are celebrating our 50th reunion this year (a year late) and will have a tribute to those who have passed onto the Lord. It would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know if this is the Richard Whitten who graduated with our class. Sincerely, Karen Hallbach Lesiak ’71 MHS
Though I didn’t know Richard well, I believe he graduated with us at Maloney High School Class of 1971. Last year we celebrated our 50th anniversary celebration – a year late. We had a beautiful memorial board and display, and masses said for our deceased which total 62 in our class to date.
We are celebrating again, this year with a scholarship initiative on behalf of our class, after some of our classmates last year got together after the reunion and began thinking of a way to give back on behalf of our class.
We will once again, have our memorial remembrance of our classmates to include Richard.
I am so sorry for your loss, on behalf of myself and our class of 1971.
I am almost certain Richard must be our classmate as it indicated that he was born in Meriden in 1953, as most of us were. Of course, we’ve all changed, though I can still see resemblance of Richard in our yearbook. It sounds like he had a very vibrant and interesting life and the love of family.
Again, my heartfelt condolences to you and your family in your loss. (I lost my husband also in 2017, and even today I miss him so much).
Sincerely, Karen Hallbach Lesiak, MHS Class of 1971
