Ruth Mackin Obituary
Ruth Rachel Mackin, age 87, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 @ 5:40am in Beaverton, Oregon. She was born on August 24, 1935 to Thomas and Elizabeth Mackin in Gibson, New York. She stayed on Long Island until she moved to W. 58th Street in midtown Manhattan in the early 1970’s where she lived for over 25 years.
While in NYC she worked for the CEO’s of 2 major corporations. One in television and the other in cosmetics. She was also a personal assistant for many years to a famous popular music and country music singer. She herself was a talented musician as a piano player, singer, song and lyric writer. She also did gigs in some chic restaurants, hotels and aboard cruise ships. She had many special friends and lots of fun and good times here.
She was also an active supporter of the carriage horses in Central Park. She would find time every day to go and feed those carrots, apples and give them her love to. She also supported tons of hurt and sick birds in the park. Would capture them and transport them to the Berkshire Bird Paradise upstate NY. Big jobs! People and all the animals loved her.
In the early 2000’s she moved from Manhattan to the West Coast and moved around a lot to finally settling and finding home in Oregon. Here she met some of her greatest friends which she loved dearly and found a lot of comfort with until the end.
She had a full, good life with mostly happy times. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Mercado, her son-in-law, Nelson Mercado and her son, Stephen Ferrante. We will all miss her dearly.
